Single Ikat Patola Dupatta

View as

The art of ikat is a highly complex and labor-intensive craft, requiring years of training and experience.

Ikat is a tightly wrapped fabric, the yarns of which are twisted together in a particular pattern to form the weave. The yarns are then dyed. The bindings may be altered to create a new pattern and the yarns dyed again with another colour.

This is a process that can be repeated multiple times and it allows you to create intricate, multicolored designs.

After the dyeing is finished, all the bindings are removed and the yarns are woven into cloth. In the dyeing process the ikat pattern is created in the yarns as opposed to being placed on the finished cloth. Thus, on both sides of the fabric there is a pattern that is intricate and beautiful.
